Cable Knit, Jacquard and Rib Knit: Choosing a Sweater Stitch
Stitch structure changes a sweater’s appearance, stretch, weight and production requirements. Selecting the right construction early helps the manufacturer prepare a more accurate sample.
Cable knit
Cable structures create raised texture and a distinctive visual identity. Buyers should consider yarn thickness, garment weight, placement of the cable and how the texture affects fit.
Jacquard knit
Jacquard allows color patterns and graphic effects to be knitted into the garment. The design should define color count, repeat size, placement and the desired reverse-side appearance.
Rib knit
Rib structures are often used for cuffs, hems, necklines and fitted garments because they provide stretch and recovery. The rib ratio and tension should be reviewed in the sample.
Choose the stitch with the full product in mind
Consider yarn composition, gauge, fit, season, finishing, cost and care together. A reference image is useful, but the approved sample should define the final construction.
Discuss your stitch direction
Send your reference images, target quantity and yarn preference through the KnitwearSource RFQ form to discuss a suitable knit construction.
